A/Prof Palmer is a dietitian and leading researcher in early-life nutrition and allergy prevention. She is the Head of Nutrition in Early Life at The Kids Research Institute Australia, with research expertise in maternal and paediatric nutrition, paediatric allergic disease and nutrition intervention trials. She is also a Chief Investigator for the Centre for Food & Allergy Research and an Adjunct Senior Research Fellow at The University of Western Australia.
With more than 10 years of clinical paediatric dietetic experience specialising in food allergy, A/Prof Palmer has built a research career focused on improving evidence-based dietary recommendations for allergy prevention. Her work includes multiple intervention trials investigating nutritional strategies during pregnancy, breastfeeding and infancy, including maternal prebiotic supplementation and maternal intake of common food allergens such as egg and peanut.
Australia has one of the highest reported rates of allergic disease globally, with food allergy affecting up to 1 in 10 babies and allergic rhinitis affecting around 1 in 4 Australians.1 As interest continues to grow around early-life nutrition, immune development and the gut microbiome, this webinar will explore how diet and intestinal microbiota may be linked to allergy prevention and allergic disease.
